How to export your family tree as GEDCOM
GEDCOM is the common file format for genealogy. Almost every program and website can save your whole tree as a GEDCOM file (ending in .ged). Menu names vary between versions – here is where you usually find the export.
Ancestry
Open your tree, go to Tree Settings and choose Export tree. Download the file when it's ready.
MyHeritage
Go to Family tree → Manage trees and choose Export to GEDCOM. MyHeritage emails you a link when the file is ready.
FamilySearch
FamilySearch Family Tree can't export the whole tree directly. Use partner software such as RootsMagic to download your ancestors and then save as GEDCOM.
Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic, Legacy, Gramps and MacFamilyTree
Use File → Export (or Family Trees → Export in Gramps) and choose GEDCOM.
Swedish programs: Disgen and Holger
Look for Export or GEDCOM in the file menu (Arkiv). Swedish characters are handled automatically.
Next step
Go to Create a chart and choose the file. It's read only in your browser – nothing is sent to us.
